Beginning drummer: Drum set or drum pad?
I play guitar and I’m really interested in drumming. I was wondering is a drum set necessary for taking drum lessons? Or would something like this be okay?
I live in an apartment, by the way.

I’m just looking for something cheap to learn and I don’t want to spend 500 bucks to do so.
I have been playing drums off a 0 drum set for like 4 years. I am really interested in moving up now and playing double bass, and soon maybe triple bass. But I have trashy symbols and such and need a new one so I can learn rythym and dynamics before anything. So my question is, what would I get better practice out of: electric or regular drum set? I’m betting on the latter because rythym and dynamics are kinda cut short in electric drum sets.
Do you play one/want to get one?
What brand?
How much?
Pros/Cons?
My dad has an electric set which I believe is a roland. it’s pretty nice and it has a port for a large sd card. He has one (card) alread, which has different sets from different bands. I am wondering if I can download sets online to put them on one of these cards.I will rephrase this later when I have more information, but thanks for any help.
edit
If it helps, his set is a Roland VDrumsTD – 20
I will be getting an electric drum kit soon, and I was wondering if I would be able to use the same pedals from an acoustic kit? Oh and before you leave really sarcastic remarks about electric kits being gay,I live in an apartment, and I can’t have my acoustic here.
